Objective:
In time for the 63rd GA, replace www.un.int with a prototype portal to the information resources of most importance to delegates.Description:
The initiative will renovate the look and feel of the site and re-implement it over a content management system. The new portal will include security at least to the mission / member state level. The following information resources will be included or linked to:- iSeek feeds relevant to missions & delegates
- Sites supporting the work of the main committees: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th
- Other sites supporting delegates: CandiWeb, CAACNET, etc.
- Protocol, blue book, phone book
- Daily Journal and other news
- Member state web sites
- All other information currently on www.un.int
- Additional information of interest: event calendar, etc.
Scope:
The portal will focus on facilitating the working lives of delegates by easing their access to relevant information. Experience with CandiWeb shows that the foreign ministries of member states may also become significant users of this information.Output:
This will result in an appropriately secured www.un.int member state portal.Impact:
Successful completion of this initiative will improve the functioning of the UN at the diplomatic level and result in improved perceptions of ICT and the benefits of an integrated approach to knowledge management and information sharing.Implementation approach and timeline:
- Accelerate and increase the visibility of the current project which is underway in ITSD.
- Include the Ad Hoc Working Group on Informatics in the process; specifically, include an informal group of volunteer delegates to participate in informal design and functionality reviews.
This initiative will be implemented within 60 days of approval.
