E-mail Print PDF

The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) is pleased to announce that four new ICT Fast Forward Initiatives are underway. This round marks the launch of the Fast Forward Programme for 2010.

ICT staff from the global Secretariat provided 13 proposals for innovative projects that can provide significant ICT service improvements with a relatively low level of effort. The ICT Management Coordination Group, represented by the senior ICT staff across the Secretariat, selected the following four initiatives that are currently in various stages of development and implementation:

Enhancing ODS search functionality
(Suggested by Mr. Bojan Grozdanic, OICT, UNHQ)

  • Improve searching capabilities of ODS using Google search engine
  • Reduce search time to find and retrieve documents and enable the sharing of ODS search results and queries

Lotus Notes Traveler
(Suggested by Mr. Suresh Khatry, ICTS, UNON)

  • Make Lotus Notes email, contacts and calendar accessible on a wide range of mobile phone devices
  • Significantly reduce response time to mobile users

Global paperless repository of UN conference participants
(Suggested by Mr. Tarun Wadhawan, UN-CCD)

  • Facilitate access to a centralized database of global participants of UN conferences
  • Go paperless, avoid duplication of records, and speed up the registration process

Blue Portal
(Suggested by Mr. Hadi Ahankoob, ICTU, ECLAC)

  • Simplify access to UN applications (ePas, Inspira etc.) by creating a single entry point (portal) to access all applications from a central location
  • Use the portal as a central location to securely link usernames and passwords to preferred applications

Fast Forward initiatives encourage ICT personnel to be innovative and work in teams across ICT units to deliver high impact, user-focused ICT solutions for the Secretariat. The selected initiatives are making good progress and are scheduled to be completed within the next 3 months. Proposals for the next FF round will be collected later this year. All UN Secretariat staff is encouraged to participate!
