Since 1998, the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) has been operating a unique programme called the Mission Donation Programme (MDP) for the benefit of United Nations Permanent Missions and Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
The Mission Donation Programme allows UN Permanent Missions and NGOs to request recycled computer equipment for their use, thus supporting a greener ICT operation for the United Nations Secretariat. Since the programme’s establishment, more than 10,348 devices have been donated to over 122 countries and NGO’s.
Below are details of the types of devices the MDP has provided over the past five years:
Eligibility

The United Nations Permanent Missions and registered NGO’s are eligible to request equipment.
Procedure for acquiring equipment
- Missions & NGO’s interested in computer equipment, should place requests on an official letterhead that has been endorsed by its corresponding Ambassador or Chief and fax it to the Mission Donation office at 212-963-1948 or scan and email it to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. - Once the equipment has been prepared, the Mission/NGO personnel will be notified and allotted a date and time to pick up the equipment at our office located on the 2b level of the Secretariat - room 2B-04C.
Terms and Conditions
- The MDP does not provide any technical support for donated equipment.
- The MDP is not required to complete sets or purchase any computer device, accessory or miscellaneous cables to complete a set.
- Donated computers are delivered with no software, except for the operating system (Windows XP and in some cases Windows 2000).
- OICT is not responsible for the delivery or transport of any donated IT equipment.
- Due to high volume of requests that are received, donations are fulfilled on a first come first served basis.
- OICT offers a maximum of 5 desktops, 5 flat screen monitors and 3 LaserJet printers per request.
- All requests for equipment that exceed the maximum will need to be approved by the Chief of OICT/OSS.
