Description:
This initiative is to provide better services to Member States, meeting participants and other concerned parties who need to have access to UN ODS documents. While the UN ODS site is public and can be reached via internet, any individual seeking the document either needs to know the document number beforehand or do the full text searching. Furthermore, the document being sought might not be available in ODS at the time of search. Sending automatic email notification with the download link to the registered users will eliminate the above problems and improve document delivery service.
Scope:
This service will cover permanent missions of the member states to the UN, meeting participants and staff members form UN Departments, OAH, Regional Commissions, Tribunals and Field Missions requiring such service.
Output:
Fully functional web based system that can register the users and automatically send email notifications with the link to read or download the documents.
Impact:
Successful completion of this initiative will improve the documents distribution service and reduce the need to issue documents in hard copy formats. End users will have better access to the electronic documents which will result in improved user satisfaction.
Implementation approach and timeline:
- Analyze available off-the-shelf subscription management systems and in-house design solutions, like OLA subscription Web service.
- Coordination and discussions with ITSD and ODS team and formulate the implementation plan.
- Proceed with acquisition of required tools and development work:
- Test run the system as pilot:
- Release the online subscription system
The online subscription system will be available to limited users on trial basis within 60 days of approval of this initiative. All the remaining users requesting access will have access within 90 days.
